Dr. Pedro Santos, MD

Medical Oncologist

Dr. Pedro Santos is a highly experienced Medical Oncologist with more than three decades of clinical, academic, and leadership experience in oncology within the Portuguese healthcare system.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon in 1989 and later completed his specialization in Medical Oncology at the Portuguese Oncology Institute (IPO) Francisco Gentil in Porto. Since the beginning of his medical career in 1990, Dr. Santos has held numerous senior and leadership roles across major public hospitals in Portugal.

Most recently, he served as Director of the Medical Oncology Department and Head of the Oncology Committee at the Algarve University Hospital Centre, overseeing oncology services across the hospitals of Faro and Portimão. He has also previously held directorship and coordination roles at the Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro Hospital Centre and the Entre Douro e Vouga Hospital Centre.

Throughout his career, Dr. Pedro Santos has played a key role in the development of oncology services, including the coordination of hospital day oncology units, participation in oncology and pharmacy & therapeutics committees, and leadership of clinical research centers. He has been actively involved in clinical efficiency and quality improvement programs, as well as in national oncology planning initiatives.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Pedro Santos has a strong academic and teaching background. He served as an Assistant Professor in the Master’s Degree in Oncology at the University of Beira Interior and has contributed to scientific publications in oncology and other medical fields. He has also supervised medical residents and physicians in specialist training throughout his career.

Dr. Pedro Santos is widely recognized for his commitment to patient-centered cancer care, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the continuous improvement of oncology services.
