Profile
About Dr Angela
Dr Angela Rousseva is a consultant psychiatrist with more than 25 years of experience in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry. She trained in Paris, holds full registration in the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council (General Adult Psychiatry), and now focuses on adult ADHD, autism and the mood disorders that often come with them.
Her career began at Henri Mondor University Hospital near Paris, where she ran an 18-bed acute psychiatric ward and taught junior doctors. She then spent eleven years in private practice in Paris with a large caseload of bipolar disorder, followed by six years in French Polynesia, first as the only psychiatrist at the main public hospital in Tahiti and then in private practice, including video consultations with patients on outlying islands. In 2026 she worked as a consultant in general adult psychiatry for the HSE in Co. Donegal, covering outpatient clinics, inpatient care and emergency assessments.
Neurodevelopmental conditions have run through almost two decades of that work. In French Polynesia alone she managed more than 200 people with ADHD, autism or both, and she regularly re-assesses adults whose earlier diagnosis no longer fits. Her research, carried out with Professor Marion Leboyer's team, looked at bipolar disorder and antidepressant-induced mania. She is trained in EMDR, CBT, ACT and Lifespan Integration.

FAQs
Can I get an adult ADHD assessment online in Ireland?
Yes. Dr Rousseva is a consultant psychiatrist on the Specialist Register of the Irish Medical Council (IMC 545995) and carries out adult ADHD assessments by secure video. An assessment usually takes more than one appointment: she goes through your current difficulties, your childhood history and any questionnaires, and it helps if someone who knew you as a child can add their view. Consultations are in English or French.
Who can diagnose ADHD in Ireland?
In Ireland an adult ADHD diagnosis is made by a psychiatrist, usually a consultant with experience in neurodevelopmental conditions. Your GP can refer you and a psychologist can contribute testing, but the diagnosis and any medication plan come from the psychiatrist. Dr Rousseva has worked with ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions for almost two decades.
Can Dr Rousseva prescribe ADHD medication in Ireland?
After a full assessment she can recommend and start a medication plan, then review how it works and adjust the dose. Stimulant medicines are controlled drugs in Ireland, so ongoing prescribing and monitoring (blood pressure, heart rate, weight) are usually shared with your GP. She also reviews ADHD medication that was started elsewhere.
Can adults be assessed for autism and ADHD together?
Yes. The two often occur together, and one can hide the other. Dr Rousseva has assessed more than 100 adults with autism alongside ADHD or mood disorders, and regularly re-assesses adults whose earlier diagnosis, such as anxiety, depression or even schizophrenia, never quite fitted.
Is ADHD missed in women?
Often. Women with ADHD are more likely to be diagnosed late, after years of treatment for anxiety or depression, and symptoms can change around pregnancy and menopause. Most of the 50+ adults Dr Rousseva assessed for ADHD in her last private practice were women.
Can she help with bipolar disorder or treatment-resistant depression?
Yes. Bipolar disorder was the focus of her research with Professor Marion Leboyer's team in Paris, and in private practice she followed more than 160 patients with bipolar disorder at a time. Online she reviews your history and medication, checks what has and has not worked, and agrees a longer-term plan with you and your GP.
Should I see a psychiatrist or a psychologist?
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can make a diagnosis and prescribe medication; a psychologist provides assessment and talking therapy but does not prescribe. See a psychiatrist for a diagnosis such as ADHD or bipolar disorder, a medication review, or when treatment is not working. Dr Rousseva is also trained in EMDR, CBT and ACT.
