What This Service Covers
This consultation provides clinical travel health assessment and personalised guidance. It does not include in-person vaccine administration — vaccines requiring physical administration are arranged through a pharmacy or travel clinic following your consultation, with your doctor's guidance on what is recommended for your destination.
Yellow fever vaccination and the associated international certificate require in-person attendance at a designated yellow fever vaccination centre. This cannot be arranged through an online consultation. Your doctor will advise on the nearest designated centre where relevant.
What Your Consultation Includes
Destination & Itinerary AssessmentYour doctor will review your travel destination, duration, planned route, accommodation type, and activities — including whether you are travelling to urban or rural areas, staying in hotels or camping, undertaking adventure activities, or visiting healthcare facilities.
Vaccination PlanningBased on your destination and health profile, your doctor will advise on:
- Which vaccines are recommended or required for your destination
- Which vaccines you may already have adequate immunity for
- The appropriate timing of vaccinations relative to your departure date
- Where to attend for vaccine administration in Ireland — pharmacies, travel clinics, and GP practices
Malaria & Infectious Disease Risk AssessmentFor destinations with malaria risk, your doctor will assess the appropriate prophylaxis regimen based on your destination, itinerary, duration, and individual health profile — including any contraindications. Guidance on other destination-specific infectious disease risks — including dengue, typhoid, hepatitis A, and others — will be provided as part of the assessment.
Management of Existing Conditions While TravellingTravelling with a chronic condition requires planning. Your doctor will advise on managing conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, or mental health conditions while abroad — including medication supply, time zone adjustments, altitude considerations, and when to seek medical attention overseas.
Travel Health DocumentationWhere clinically appropriate, your doctor can provide a travel health summary letter — useful for patients carrying medications, medical devices, or requiring documentation of their health status for insurance or border health purposes.
Post-Travel AssessmentReturning from a high-risk destination with symptoms? Your doctor can assess fever, gastrointestinal illness, skin conditions, or other symptoms in the context of your travel history — with referral for specialist tropical medicine assessment where indicated.

A Note on Vaccine Administration
This consultation provides clinical travel health assessment and personalised vaccination planning — it does not include physical vaccine administration.
Following your consultation, your doctor will provide clear guidance on which vaccines are recommended for your destination and where to attend for administration in Ireland. Most recommended travel vaccines are available at:
- Pharmacies across Ireland — including many high-street pharmacies offering travel vaccine services
- Private travel health clinics
- Some GP practices offering travel health services
Your doctor will issue any supporting documentation needed to facilitate vaccine administration where appropriate.
Yellow fever vaccination and the associated international certificate require attendance at a designated yellow fever vaccination centre — your doctor will advise on the nearest appropriate centre.

- Time zone management — adjusting medication timing across multiple time zones
- Altitude considerations — impact on cardiovascular, respiratory, and diabetic conditions
- Food and water safety in the context of your specific condition
- When to seek medical attention abroad — and how to navigate healthcare in your destination country
- Travel insurance documentation — your doctor can provide a clinical summary letter to support travel insurance applications and claims
