Why online gastroenterology is needed in Portugal, now
Access to gastroenterology care in the National Health Service (SNS), including tests such as colonoscopy, shows significant regional disparities, with the greatest shortages in the interior of the country, the Algarve and the Alentejo. The public and contracted network has not yet fully recovered from the drops in activity recorded in 2020, and the sector remains under pressure from the difficulty of recruiting gastroenterologists and anaesthesiologists, as well as outdated contract fee schedules. In the Azores, a programme dedicated to reducing waiting lists of more than 90 days achieved a 23% reduction in the first half of 2026 alone — an indicator of the scale of the problem it seeks to solve.
Gastroenterology teleconsultation is already an established reality in Portugal, driven by the difficulty of accessing the SNS and by growing demand, including from foreign residents in the country. It allows symptom assessment, interpretation of test results, follow-up of chronic diseases (such as inflammatory bowel disease or reflux disease) and treatment adjustments — although urgent situations, such as severe abdominal pain or gastrointestinal bleeding, always require immediate in-person assessment.

The position: Gastroenterologist for online consultations
We are looking for licensed gastroenterologists practising in Portugal to join our online clinic. Through our platform, you will carry out remote gastroenterology consultations with patients across the country, with full flexibility to manage your working model.
- 100% remote — consultations from anywhere, by video, with access to the patient's tests and lab results
- Flexible hours — choose the hours and days that suit you best
- Main or complementary activity — ideal as a complement to an existing practice or hospital work
- Clear referral pathways — defined protocols for immediately referring urgent cases (severe abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding) to in-person care
- Fully integrated electronic prescriptions — including renewal of chronic medication, with no additional paperwork

Who we are looking for
- A valid professional licence in Portugal (registration with the Ordem dos Médicos)
- Specialisation in Gastroenterology
- Experience with online consultation tools is an advantage (training and onboarding support provided)
- Fluent Portuguese; English is an advantage given our international team, and Spanish, Romanian or Czech are a bonus given our presence in those markets
