Online orthopaedics. From anywhere. At any time.
About us
Global Health is an online clinic already present in Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Czechia and Brazil. Our promise is simple: Healthcare Anytime, Anywhere. We are building a clinic that removes the barriers between doctors and the patients who need them — wherever they are.
Why online orthopaedics is needed in Portugal, now
The shortage of orthopaedic surgeons and of complete surgical teams has caused critical delays in orthopaedic surgery in the National Health Service (SNS). At Hospital Dona Estefânia, for example, the waiting list for paediatric orthopaedic surgery went from 1 patient in 2020 to around 280 in 2025, with some children waiting four years for surgery. The situation has worsened with new payment rules for surgical teams, which have led doctors to refuse additional hours, and the Government is assessing exceptional measures, such as centralising orthopaedic emergency care in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley.
Teleconsultation does not replace surgery or an in-person pre-operative assessment — but it can play a real role: initial triage, a second opinion on diagnosis and treatment plan, review of imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI) and follow-up of non-surgical or post-operative conditions. There are already clinics in Portugal offering this model, including specialist second opinions on spinal conditions.
Online orthopaedics is a real way to help relieve the pressure on the system — and you can be part of it.
The position: Orthopaedic surgeon for online consultations
We are looking for licensed orthopaedic surgeons practising in Portugal to join our online clinic. Through our platform, you will carry out remote orthopaedic consultations with patients across the country — triage, second opinions, review of imaging and follow-up — with full flexibility to manage your working model.
- 100% remote — consultations from anywhere, by video, with access to the patient's imaging
- Flexible hours — choose the hours and days that suit you best
- Main or complementary activity — ideal as a complement to an existing surgical or hospital practice
- Clear referral pathway — defined protocols for referring cases that require in-person assessment or surgical intervention
What you will be part of
- A truly international team of doctors — collaborate and connect with colleagues across Europe and Brazil
- A growing platform — you join Global Health during its expansion phase in Portugal, not an already established system
- Real impact — help patients get triage and a second opinion more quickly, relieving some of the pressure on surgical waiting lists
- Ongoing support — technical, administrative and clinical support, so you can focus on medicine, not paperwork
Who we are looking for
- A valid professional licence in Portugal (registration with the Ordem dos Médicos)
- Specialisation in Orthopaedics and Traumatology
- Experience with online consultation tools is an advantage (training and onboarding support provided)
- Fluent Portuguese; English is an advantage given our international team, and Spanish, Romanian or Czech are a bonus given our presence in those markets
Why now
With surgical waiting lists reaching critical levels in some SNS units, online triage and second opinions can help direct in-person resources to those who need them most. Doctors who join us at this stage help shape how online orthopaedics works within Global Health in Portugal — this is not just about filling a schedule, but about building something new.
If you are looking for a way to practise orthopaedics with more freedom, connection and purpose — we would be delighted to meet you.
