How Specialist Access Works in Czech Republic
Czech Republic has a different referral structure from Ireland or the UK. Most private specialists in Czech Republic can be accessed directly — without a GP referral letter. However, arriving at a specialist appointment without clinical context significantly reduces the quality of that appointment. A specialist who receives a clear referral letter — describing your symptoms, relevant history, current medications, and the specific clinical question — is better placed to conduct a focused, efficient assessment than one seeing you cold.
For public system specialist access, a referral from a registered Czech GP is required. Global Health cannot provide public system referrals — this requires an established registered GP relationship within the Czech public health system.

Referral Letters — What They Include
A referral letter issued by a Global Health doctor following clinical assessment includes:
- Patient details and relevant medical history
- Description of the presenting concern — symptoms, duration, severity, and relevant clinical findings from the video consultation
- Current medications and relevant investigations already completed
- Specific clinical question for the specialist — what you are asking them to assess or advise on
- Degree of urgency — routine, soon, or urgent — based on clinical assessment
The letter is issued in English. Where a Czech-language version is needed for a Czech-speaking specialist, discuss this with your doctor during the consultation.

Accessing Private Blood Tests in Czech Republic
Private blood test collection points are widely available across Czech Republic — in Prague and in all major regional cities. After your consultation, your doctor issues the investigation request and advises on where to go for collection based on your location. You book the collection appointment directly — no Czech public health insurance is required for private blood tests. Results are typically available within 24 to 72 hours depending on the tests requested, though some specialist tests may take longer. Your doctor advises on expected turnaround when issuing the request.
Imaging Requests
Where X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, or CT is clinically indicated following assessment, your doctor issues a formal imaging request. Private radiology is widely accessible in Czech Republic — most private hospitals and radiology centres accept direct booking with a doctor's request letter. Your doctor advises on the most appropriate imaging modality for your specific clinical question and the urgency of the investigation.
Results Review
Received blood test results, imaging reports, or specialist letters that you want reviewed and explained in English? Your doctor reviews your results in full during a follow-up consultation — explaining the clinical findings, what they mean for your health, what the next steps are, and whether further investigation or specialist input is needed.
This is one of the most common uses of this service for expats in Czech Republic — receiving results from Czech doctors or laboratories and wanting them explained clearly in English before deciding how to proceed.
Referral and investigation consultations are conducted at GP level by doctors registered with the Czech Medical Chamber (ČLK), in accordance with Czech telemedicine regulations under Act No. 372/2011 Coll. and Decree No. 30/2025 Coll. This service provides private referral letters and private investigation requests — it does not provide public system specialist referrals, which require a registered Czech GP. Clinical documentation is issued solely at the doctor's professional discretion following full assessment.
