Women's Health Consultation

Women's health covers far more than reproductive medicine — it includes hormonal health, metabolic conditions, mental wellbeing, and the specific ways common conditions present differently in women. Our doctors, registered with the Portuguese Medical Association, offer confidential women's health consultations by secure video call. Whether it's contraception advice, hormonal assessment, menopause management, or support with a chronic condition related to your health as a woman — we provide complete, personalised clinical care, without a waiting room.

About this service

What This Service Includes

This is a complete women's health consultation, carried out at primary-care level by doctors registered with the Portuguese Medical Association. Our doctors assess the complete clinical picture — medical history, hormonal profile, lifestyle factors, and current symptoms — and advise on the most appropriate management based on the findings.

This service is for women's health issues at primary-care level. For acute illness or sudden symptoms, our GP Consultation may be more appropriate. For ongoing chronic disease management, see our Family and General Medicine Consultation.

What Your Consultation Includes

Complete Clinical Assessment. Your doctor carries out a detailed review of your medical history, current symptoms, menstrual and reproductive history, medication, hormonal indicators, and lifestyle factors — building a complete clinical picture tailored to your specific concerns.

Hormonal and Metabolic Assessment. Women's health symptoms often have hormonal or metabolic roots that go unnoticed in standard acute consultations. Your doctor assesses the complete hormonal picture when relevant — including thyroid function, reproductive hormones, and metabolic indicators.

Personalised Clinical Management Plan. Based on the assessment, your doctor advises on the appropriate next steps — which may include lifestyle recommendations, referral for tests or specialist assessment, clinical recommendations at the doctor's professional discretion, or coordination of ongoing care.

Referral and Care Coordination. When gynaecology, endocrinology, or other specialist support is needed, your doctor advises clearly and coordinates the referral to the appropriate service — ensuring continuity between primary and specialist care.

Ongoing Care Pathway. When your condition requires structured long-term management — hormonal conditions, PCOS, endometriosis, or menopause — your doctor advises on the most suitable ongoing care pathway.

Why Women's Health Deserves This Consultation

Women's health conditions are chronically underdiagnosed and undertreated. Endometriosis takes, on average, several years to be diagnosed. PCOS affects one in ten women and is often undetected or poorly managed. Perimenopause symptoms are routinely attributed to anxiety or stress. Hormonal contributors to mood, weight, skin, and energy are consistently underassessed in standard acute consultations.

A dedicated women's health consultation exists precisely because these conditions require clinical time, hormonal literacy, and a doctor who addresses your symptoms with the full context of women's health — not a 15-minute acute consultation designed for a respiratory infection.

A Note on Confidentiality

Women's health issues — particularly those involving contraception, sexual health, hormonal conditions, and menopause — are among the most personal medical topics you can discuss. Our consultations are carried out by encrypted video call, in full compliance with Portuguese and European data protection law. Your records are not shared without your explicit consent, and your consultation is completely private.

Why Choose Our Care

Doctors registered with the Portuguese Medical Association. All assessments are carried out by doctors registered with the Portuguese Medical Association, at standard primary-care clinical level — the same standard you would receive at an in-person consultation.

Same-day and advance appointments. Available the same day for situations requiring a quick response, or by advance booking for scheduled reviews — because women's healthcare should fit your life, not the other way around.

Completely confidential. Encrypted video call, strict data protection compliance, and complete clinical privacy. No receptionists, no waiting rooms, no one who knows your name at the door.

Hormonal literacy. Our doctors approach women's health with the clinical depth it requires — including assessment of hormonal, metabolic, psychological, and lifestyle contributors often overlooked in standard consultations.

Multilingual. Consultations available in Portuguese, English, Spanish, Czech, and Romanian — particularly relevant for the international and expat female population in Portugal, who often face additional barriers to accessing women's healthcare in a new country.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I discuss contraception at this consultation?

Yes. Contraception assessment and review is a core part of this service. Your doctor carries out a complete clinical assessment and advises on the appropriate options based on your medical history and individual needs. Any clinical recommendations are made at the doctor's professional discretion, after assessment.

Can I get hormone replacement therapy through this service?

Hormone replacement therapy can be assessed and started at primary-care level, when clinically appropriate. Your doctor carries out a complete assessment of your symptoms, medical history, and suitability, before advising on any hormonal management. All recommendations are made at the doctor's professional discretion.

Is this service suitable for PCOS?

Yes. Assessment, diagnostic support, and ongoing management of PCOS are suitable for this consultation. Your doctor reviews your symptoms, hormonal profile, and relevant history, and advises on an appropriate management plan — including referral for tests or specialist assessment when indicated.

What if I need to see a gynaecologist?

If the assessment indicates that specialist gynaecology support is needed, your doctor informs you clearly and coordinates the referral to the appropriate service.

Can I use this service if I do not live in Portugal permanently?

Yes. We serve expats, international residents, students, and travellers in Portugal. You do not need to be registered with a health centre to access our service.

Is this service suitable for teenagers?

Yes, for adult women and older teenagers, when clinically appropriate. Contraception consultations for those under 18 follow Portuguese standards for consent and capacity. Your doctor advises on suitability during the consultation.

Can I discuss postpartum mental health concerns?

Yes. Postpartum mood issues, including postpartum depression and anxiety, are suitable for assessment at primary-care level. Your doctor carries out a complete assessment and advises on appropriate support — including specialist referral when indicated.

Medical disclaimer. All services are provided at Clínica Geral level in accordance with Portuguese healthcare regulations. Prescriptions, referrals, and medical certificates may be issued only when clinically appropriate and at the doctor's discretion. Our doctors do not routinely prescribe controlled substances through online consultations. Backdated medical certificates are not routinely issued due to the lack of a direct clinical assessment at the time of illness. These versions are cleaner, country-specific, and avoid mentioning the other jurisdiction, making them suitable for dedicated Ireland and Portugal service pages.
