About MUDr Sylvia
Feeling unwell and not sure whether you need to see a doctor in person? MUDr. Sylvia Masika answers that question every day. She has worked as a general practitioner in the Czech Republic for more than 15 years and looks after close to 2,000 registered patients in her own practice, so she knows everyday problems — and the less obvious ones — first-hand.
In a consultation she listens carefully, asks what matters and then tells you plainly: this is something we can sort out online, or this needs an examination. If there are warning signs she does not wait, and helps you with the next step, whether that is a clinic visit or urgent care.
Her route into general practice ran through demanding fields: emergency and acute care, treating breathing difficulties, severe allergic reactions and hypertensive crises; internal medicine with critically ill patients; and hospital paediatrics in Nairobi, Kenya. She qualified in medicine at the Charles University Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen and completed her specialist certification in general practice in Prague.

FAQs
Can I get a sick note (eNeschopenka) online?
Where your condition and the rules allow, Dr Masika can issue an electronic sick note (eNeschopenka) after the consultation. It depends on her clinical assessment — if you need an examination, she will say so and explain the next step.
Can she prescribe medication online?
Yes, where clinically appropriate she issues an ePrescription that you can collect at any Czech pharmacy, including repeat medication for long-term conditions. Some medicines cannot be prescribed without an in-person examination.
Flu or a sore throat — when is an online consultation enough?
For flu, colds or a sore throat it is often enough to assess the symptoms, advise on home treatment and decide whether a swab or examination is needed. A high fever that does not respond to medication, breathing difficulty, trouble swallowing or confusion need in-person care.
Can she help with high blood pressure or diabetes?
Yes. Dr Masika looks after many patients with high blood pressure and diabetes: she reviews your home readings and results, adjusts treatment and plans follow-up, so online reviews fit between clinic visits.
Can a urinary tract infection be treated online?
Uncomplicated cystitis in women can often be managed online, including a prescription. You need to be seen in person if you have a fever, back pain, blood in the urine, are pregnant, are a man or a child, or keep getting infections.
