Dr. Telmo Coelho Specialist Physician in Psychiatry

Dr. Telmo Coelho is a specialist physician in Psychiatry with extensive and solid clinical experience in hospital, community, forensic, and institutional settings in Portugal. He completed his specialization in Psychiatry at São João Hospital Center with high distinction and received comprehensive training in inpatient care, day hospital, community psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, addictive behaviors, and neurology.

He has extensive professional experience as a Hospital Consultant in Psychiatry at the Armed Forces Hospital – Porto Unit, where he also served as Director of the Psychiatry Department. He carries out clinical activity in outpatient clinics, emergency services, and consultation-liaison psychiatry, as well as expert medical work within the Armed Forces Medical Boards and the National War Stress Network.

Dr. Telmo Coelho has broad experience in forensic psychiatry, serving as an expert for the Social Security Disability Assessment Service, collaborating with courts and correctional institutions, and performing medico-legal assessments and issuing specialized clinical reports for legal and administrative purposes.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with several hospitals, private clinics, correctional facilities, and social institutions, and is also noted for his involvement in providing psychiatric support to vulnerable populations. He has also served as a Guest Lecturer at the Catholic University of Porto in the field of Adult and Elderly Mental Pathology.

Dr. Telmo Coelho holds postgraduate training in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Forensic Psychiatry, Psychotraumatology, Military and Disaster Medicine, as well as training in electroconvulsive therapy and emergency medicine. He speaks Portuguese as his native language and is fluent in English.
