Dr. Ana Varges Gomes

Medical Oncologist

Dr. Ana Varges Gomes is an experienced medical oncologist with an extensive career dedicated to treatment, research, and advancement of oncology care. She currently works as a Medical Oncologist at the University Hospital Center of the Algarve, where she also served as Coordinator of the Regional Cancer Registry and actively participates in multidisciplinary teams for lung cancer and other tumor groups.

Her career has included leadership positions such as Director of the Medical Oncology Department, Clinical Director of Lenitudes Medical & Research Center, and President of the Board of Directors of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve. She coordinated oncology residents, multidisciplinary teams, and clinical research units, particularly in the areas of head and neck tumors, lung, urology, hepatobiliary, and cutaneous cancers.

Internationally recognized, Dr. Ana Varges Gomes has been a leader and member of the board of several prestigious oncology societies, including the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the European Head and Neck Society (EHNS). She is author and coauthor of numerous scientific publications and clinical guidelines, particularly in the field of head and neck cancers and lung cancer, and has served as principal investigator in multinational clinical trials.

Beyond her clinical and research activities, Dr. Ana Varges Gomes is dedicated to medical education, mentoring medical students and oncology residents, and contributing to international cancer prevention and treatment awareness campaigns.
