Clinical Nutrition Specialist
Sónia Xavier holds a degree in Nutrition and Food Sciences from the University of Porto (2000), with specialization in Clinical Nutrition recognized by the Order of Nutritionists (2021). Additionally, she has obtained postgraduate qualifications in Oncology from the Portuguese League Against Cancer, in Eating Behavior Disorders, and in Palliative Care, as well as a Professional Aptitude Certificate as a trainer.
With solid experience of over two decades in the Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Nutritionist Sónia Xavier distinguished herself as Senior Technical Advisor in Nutrition and as Coordinator of Nutrition and Food Services in public and private entities, leading teams, designing menus, and promoting personalized nutritional care.
Currently, she provides clinical consultations at Nélio Mendonça Hospital — Nephrology Department — and at private reference centers such as Clínica da Sé (Funchal) and Hospital da Luz – Clínica do Caniço. Additionally, she coordinates the food service at Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Machico and provides nutritional support to the Mário Miguel Foundation.
An active member and collaborator of the Order of Nutritionists — having also been a member of its General Council from 2019 to 2022 — she also integrates the Portuguese League Against Cancer, the Portuguese Society for the Study of Obesity (SPEO), the Portuguese Association of Nutritionists (APN), and the Portuguese Society of Lifestyle Medicine (SPMEV).
Nutritionist Sónia Xavier offers a rigorous, empathetic, and comprehensive clinical approach, focusing on nutritional balance for patients with multiple profiles, including oncology, chronic kidney disease, obesity, eating disorders, and palliative care.
She speaks Portuguese and English, ensuring effective communication with a diverse audience.
